Ward 6 Community Garden Bike Tour

You like bikes. You like community gardens. Well then, you have to join us this Sunday, September 29th, 12-3 pm, for the Ward 6 Community Garden Bike Tour. We’ve got dozens and dozens of great community gardens throughout our neighborhoods (too many to see in one tour!).

For this Ward 6 ride, leaders from each garden visited will talk about their garden space and share their stories! This exciting Ward 6 ride is in partnership with the BicycleSPACE City Explorer’s program.

Each community garden we’ll visit is special — each with its own unique challenges and opportunities. We’ll start off at the Southwest Community Gardens in Lansburgh Park at 12:00 noon (next to Delaware Ave, SW south of I Street, SW). You’ve been reading about this garden lately following their big build day earlier this summer.

We’ll then pedal over to the Virginia Avenue Community Garden before taking the Anacostia River Trail up to visit Hill East and Rosedale gardens. Next, we’ll cut across the Ward to stop by the Walker-Jones Urban Farm that partners with the K-8 school before jumping up to the City Blossom’s Marion Street Intergenerational Garden. We’ll wrap up at BicycleSPACE and a happy hour at Passenger to relax from the ride and share what we’ve learned.

No RSVP is required (but if you complete the free registration it will help us get a head count) and we want to see you join us for the ride – whether for the whole ride or just your favorite section. A special thanks to Sam Marrero and Coy McKinney with the Southwest Community Gardens for helping create this great tour.

Here’s the tentative schedule:

12:00 – Meet at Southwest Community Gardens
12:30 – Arrive at Virginia Avenue Community Gardens
1:15 – Arrive at Kingman Park / Rosedale Community Garden
1:45 – Arrive at Walker-Jones Urban Farm
2:15 – Arrive at Marion Street Intergenerational Garden
2:45-3:00 – End at BicycleSPACE and Passenger
